AI's Hidden Power: Beyond the Robot Revolution

Writer: Elaine WongElaine Wong

Just watched a thought-provoking talk by historian Yuval Harari on AI, and here's what caught my attention:

  • Forget killer robots - AI's real power is its mastery of language and storytelling, the foundation of human society;

  • It's already gaining the ability to generate and manipulate stories, laws and relationships that shape our reality;

  • The urgent challenge isn't stopping AI research but ensuring thoughtful governance of its public deployment.

While I'm excited to be part of the GenAI revolution, Harari's perspective reminds us to pause and reflect. As Stuart Russell puts it: "The future is not something that happens to us. It's something we create."

What steps do you think we should take to ensure AI remains a force for good?
